  Swim Across America Event
When Women & Infants Hospital approached Summer Infant a few years ago seeking donations in support of their newly planned South Pavilion Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), we couldn’t say no. Ranked 26th in Gynecology in U.S. News & World Report’s 2010-11 Best Hospitals; Women & Infants represents one of the country’s most dedicated facilities to improving the health of babies and women.
The new South Pavilion, which opened on September 14, 2009, is the largest single-room NICU in the country. Cognizant of the need to provide premature babies with the right environment to aid in their development, the impressive new NICU occupies 50,000 square feet over two floors. Previously, it measured a cramped 9,400 square feet, designed for 41 infants but often caring for more than 70. The new facility can handle 80.
Additionally, Summer Infant has been enlisted by Women & Infants in several other exciting fundraising efforts including their Celebrity Luncheon and Swim Across America events. Summer has also participated in several co-donations in conjunction with the RI March of Dimes chapter. One of which was prompted by the inspiring story of the 2010 March of Dimes National Ambassador, Joshua Hoffman, whereby Summer Infant donated 36 SwaddlePods to the new NICU unit in his name.
